Consumers decide Electricity protest, yet again
Chitral -- A meeting of
electricity consumers of Chitral town held at the Moldeh
mosque Sunday morning decided to launch protest against
not handing over the Chitral town powerhouse to SHYDO as
per the urgent demand of all the consumers of the town.
The meeting of consumers
fed up with extreme power outages in a water rich area
was presided over
by Hayatullah Khan. The meeting decided to initially stop payment of
the electricity bills until the power house is taken
away from WAPDA and handed over to the provincial
organisation SHYDO. Speakers said WAPDA does not have
mandate nor time to run power houses below 7 megawatt
and the Chitral powerhouse is always running at half
megawatt so WAPDA has no business here.
They said The Reshun and
Drosh powerhouses are also being run by SHYDO and
performing well. They said It would better coordinate with the provincial organisation and
be easy to approach them for problem solving.
It was
unanimously decided that initially electricity bills
would be burnt in public to protest the governments
apathy towards their solvable problem and subsequently
further measures would be taken which may not augur well
for the administration. If it maintains it's indifferent
attitude towards the
problem of the people. -- CN
