Chitralis adamant on demanding ban on deforstation
Chitral -- The Public and opinion leaders have again raised voice
against indiscriminate deforestation and damage to the environment.
A protest meeting against deforestation in the Kalash valleys was
held in Ayun on Sunday. Former Tehsil Nazim Shahzada Sikander Ukl
Mulk was chief guest while former MNA Molana Abdul Akbar presided
over the meeting. It was demanded that immediate ban on cutting of
trees be imposed and the already cut logs be auctioned for use
inside Chitral instead of exporting them outside the district. It
was demanded that cases against anti deforestation protestors of
Ayun be withdrawn forthwith as they were rightfully protesting
against excess by the deforesters.
A press
conference was held in Chitral on Monday by the aforementioned
leaders which was joined by ex MPA Zafar Ahmad, PPP(S) president
Abdul Wali Khan, ex AC Sardar Ahmad Khan etc along with dozens of
anti deforestation activists. Speakers reiterated similar demands in
the press conference.
It is
heartening to know that awareness against deforestation is growing.
A Chitrali living in Canada Dr Khalil who is on a visit to Chitral,
has recently made a video of the ghastly business of massacring the
greenness of Chitral and defiling the beauty of our hills and
mountains, which have protected us over the centuries from the
vagaries and viciousness of the climate.
