In Defence
of Chitral
-letter
Siraj UlMulk
Dear Sir; This attack from across our border in Arandu
today is the worst thing imaginable to have happened to
our sons and brothers in Chitral Scouts. We the citizens
of Chitral must stand firmly behind Chitral Scouts and
all our law enforcement and intelligence gathering
agencies. It is going to be a sad Eid in the next three
or four days for the families of these men.
A lot can be done by us people of Chitral to save our
home land. If Chitral is safe from terrorist activities
so far it is because of us Chitralies. We must recognize
our strength to protect our beloved Chitral. Our
strength lies in our unique culture, our distinct
language Khowar and our natural and un-diluted love for
Chitral. Any one not conforming with these three
attributes must be discouraged from getting into our
midst and looked at with suspicion until the time that
we are sure that no harm can come from him/her to our
homeland and our families.
All Chitralies must rise above their various classes and
religious faith and unite to be just one Kho race ready
to protect each other against the danger that has
started to knock at our doors.
Of course the government must play its part by
immediately re-enforcing the strength along all the
border posts. Intelligence agencies must now double its
efforts to penetrate the people living on the borders of
Kunar and Nuristan who have a free access to cross to
either side of the border. The Chitral Scouts must be
immediately strengthened by recalling all their Wings
from other parts of Pakistan back to Chitral. No other
force can defend Chitral better than the Chitral Scouts
who will certainly also have the full backing of all of
us in Chitral.
This attack today on our Chitral Scouts posts will
strengthen the resolve of each of us to stand up and be
counted in the defence of our mother land. If we people
of Chitral are determined to protect the peace that we
enjoy upto now then rest assured that no one can take it
away from us. We must not fail Chitral.
