DSL installed, awaiting some 'VIP' to inaugurate
Chitral -- Long awaited DSL equipment has been installed
at the Chitral telephone exchange to provide broadband
internet service to users and has been tested to be
found in perfect working state, but the service is not
being disseminated to users for the want of a VIP to
come and inaugurate the service, CN learned from
sources inside the telephone department.
The culture of VIPsm is a curse which
plagues Pakistan in general and Chitral in particular
and inaugurations are the favorite hobby of 'VIPs'.
It may be noted that one of the biggest projects in
Chitral town ie the Chowni Bridge was built quietly by
the Japanese some years ago without any inauguration and
fanfare and completed in record time and allowed to be
used by the public one fine morning, without any
trumpeting, garlanding, thanking any VIPs. No body even
got to know who the Japanese were. They came, did their
job and went away without creating any fuss of any kind.
Alas we did not learn any lesson from them and insist on
continuing with our rotten customs.
