DSL service in Chitral town unreliable, inefficient

Chitral -- The much awaited DSL broad band internet service from the PTCL although started working in Chitral town, but has started giving problems from the day of its birth. Frequent disconnections, slow speed and unreliability are some of it's major characteristics. The service provider also does not have the proper infra structure and expertise for running the service. Wireless routers a part and parcel of the package are not available in Chitral and connections are being denied to applicants on the pretext of shortage of lines. A PTCL official when contacted by CN said the service was on trial basis and much has to be done to bring it at par with other cities. The standard of service though is less than other cities, but cost of the service if not more, is no way less than any where else. -- CN report, 21 Aug 2011
