Chitralis condemn cross border attacks
Chitral- -- A pal of gloom has descended on
Chitral after hearing about militant rebels from
Afghanistan attacking Chitral's border posts inflicting
heavy casualty on the paramilitary deployed there. The
feeling of insecurity seems writ large on the faces of
peace loving Chitralis who have historically never been
associated with violence and armed armed aggression.
The question every Chitrali asks is that are our borders
so vulnerable so as to be marauded by armed insurgents
over-powering the regular militia on duty there, or is
there more to it than than meets the eye?. Knowledgeable
sources say that powerful anti Pakistan forces are
behind the insurgents who single handedly would not dare
such audacious move against an established army.
The most agonising aspect of the tragic episode is that
both sides i.e. the attacking militants and the
defending Chitral Scouts soldiers were chanting "Allah
Akbar" (God is great) while killing each other. This is
the very point which needs to be focused on. If the
militants have been misled to believe that they were
fighting a holy war against the Pakistani armed forces,
then the problem stands identified and efforts should be
made to remove this fatal misconception and clear their
minds.
The enemies of Pakistan have launched a psychological
war against the country which is more dangerous than the
traditional physical conflict. Pakistan needs to get its
act correct and not blindly rely on force to try curb an
ideology; instead it needs to aggressively employ
psychological methodology to put those who have gone on
the path of animosity back on the path of tolerance and
coexistence. For this, justice, fairplay, meritocracy
and rule of law in the society are prerequisites,
perhaps!. --
