Banks decline payouts due cash
shortage
Chitral -- Shortage of cash in Chitral banks caused panic and
anxiety amongst customers, most of whom were contractors
swarming the banks to withdraw cash to pay their
labourers and workers
on the occasion of Eid ul Azha.
Salaried persons and pensioners also faced great
difficulty in getting their emoluments from the banks as shortage of
currency marked the Chitral banks on the eve of Eid festival.
One banker of a private bank blamed the National Bank branch for not
ensuring enough cash to meet the requirement of other banks. It may
be known that the National Bank main branch Chitral acts on behalf
of the state bank of Pakistan to supply cash to the other banks
which is flown in from Peshawar, and cancellation of flights
disrupts this process.
Faiz ur Rehman Gen Secy APML Chitral, along with other contractors,
talking to CN, demanded that keeping in view the geographical
problems of Chitral, a sub branch of the State Bank of Pakistan be
opened here to cater for such problems like cash exhaustion in
Chitral, which is becoming frequent with the passage of time.-- CN report, 04 Nov 2011.
